Peace efforts in DDO beget rise in competitiveness

The Whole-of-Nation approach to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (ELCAC) currently implemented in Davao de Oro has raised the competitiveness index of the province.

Gov. Jayvee Tyron Uy bared during the PTV Network Briefing News that because of the gains of the “Oplan Pagbabago,” the provincial program on ELCAC, Davao de Oro rose to second from last among the provinces in Davao Region in the Competitive Index 2020 Ranking.

“Last year, we were awarded as the second most competitive province in Davao Region compared to 2016 during which we were in last place in the business competitive index,” Governor Uy said.

In the recent State of Province Address, Uy also disclosed that from 11 guerilla units in 2016, the authorities in the province are now confronting only one weakened communist armed front.

The chief executive appreciated the programs of President Rodrigo Duterte that have greatly helped in the decline of the communist insurgency in the province.

Davao de Oro has received PHP1.3 billion from the Barangay Development Plan to implement PHP20 million worth of projects in 65 barangays.

The projects include 64 roads, 26 water systems, seven electrifications, seven school buildings, seven health centers, one evacuation center, two flood control projects, one slope protection project, four streetlights, seven assistance programs to indigents, and three livelihood programs.

“We laud the President for his political will that by this time, he really wanted to end insurgency in the highlands of Mindanao; we will continue to reach areas that need government service and infrastructure, especially now that our whole-of-nation approach has been institutionalized,” Uy said.
