Davao City, DOH in talks for Covid-19 booster shots for A1

DAVAO CITY – The city government here and the Department of Health (DOH) 11 (Davao) recently held discussions for the administration of booster shots of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) vaccines for the medical health front-liners under the A1 category as the first eligible sector to receive additional protection.

In a radio interview on October 29, Covid-19 Task Force Spokesperson Dr. Michelle Schlosser confirmed the ongoing preparations for the administration of booster shot vaccines for the A1 priority group.

“We do not have updates as to when (the booster shot starts) but I can confirm that there are already talks about booster dose especially for our front-liners,” Schlosser said.

According to reports, the DOH is already discussing the rollout of a third dose to select eligible groups of people such as healthcare workers, senior citizens, and persons with comorbidities.

Meanwhile, in light of public health emergency, the Health Technology Assessment Unit has been reviewing Covid-19 vaccines following the request of DOH for the Health Technology Assessment Council (HTAC) to urgently come up with recommendations to guide the last quarter of 2021 rollout and for the 2022 implementation.

In the letter sent by HTAC to DOH, it has recommended that for the fourth quarter of this year, booster shots will be implemented to the healthcare workers while in 2022 the boosters will be given to all eligible priority groups.

“We emphasized that these recommendations are being offered in consideration of sufficient vaccine supply and acceptable coverage for primary vaccination,” HTAC said in a statement recently issued.

HTC recommends the following booster vaccination strategies for both 2021 and 2022 implementations: Pfizer-BioNTech- Pfizer-BioNTech; AstraZeneca- Pfizer-BioNTech or AstraZeneca; Janssen-Janssen; Sinovac CoronaVac- Pfizer-BioNTech, AstraZeneca or Sinovac; and Moderna- Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna.  (NW)
